An assessment of what the FutuRam Project results mean for battery recyclers
FutuRaM, a strategic project funded under the European Commission's Horizon 2020 programme, developed a harmonized framework for compositional data collection, material flow analysis, and material recovery modelling across six key waste streams: Batteries, Buildings, Mining Waste, Slags and Ashes, Vehicles, WEEE, and Wind Turbines. The framework enables a systematic assessment of secondary raw material potentials at the European and Member State level. This presentation focuses on the battery waste stream, providing insights into waste generation volumes and material recovery potential for selected battery categories. By contrasting what is theoretically recoverable with what is currently and foreseeably recovered in practice, the findings highlight critical gaps between technical potential and actual recovery performance, offering valuable guidance for policy development and investment in recycling infrastructure.
