2nd Cycle Presents Fully Automated Recycling Line for End-of-Life PV Modules
2nd Cycle FlexCo is presenting its fully automated recycling line for end-of-life photovoltaic modules at the E-Waste Expo. The system has been developed to meet the rapidly growing demand for scalable, high-quality and economically viable PV module recycling in Europe and beyond.
As the first large volumes of solar panels reach the end of their operational lifetime, recyclers, utilities and solar park operators are facing a new industrial challenge: how to process PV modules efficiently while recovering valuable materials in the best possible quality. 2nd Cycle addresses this challenge with an integrated recycling line designed specifically for silicon-based PV modules. The fully automated line combines several key process steps in one industrial system.
Modules are handled automatically, prepared for recycling, and processed through stations for junction box removal, frame separation and further material separation. The objective is to recover valuable fractions such as aluminium, glass, cables and other module components in a clean and reusable form. A major focus of the development is process reliability, occupational safety and material quality. By reducing manual handling and standardising the recycling process, 2nd Cycle enables higher throughput, consistent results and improved working conditions. The modular design also allows the system to be adapted to different customer requirements, plant layouts and recycling strategies.
The recycling line is part of 2nd Cycle’s broader mission to maximise the lifecycle of every PV module. Before modules become waste, the company also develops automated reuse and testing solutions to identify panels that can be repaired, refurbished or safely returned to a second life. When reuse is no longer possible, the recycling line ensures that materials are recovered and kept in the value chain.
With its combination of PV module testing, reuse and recycling technologies, 2nd Cycle supports the transition towards a more circular solar industry and helps customers prepare for the next wave of PV waste.
