LiGenerate Announces Innovative Black Mass Recycling Solution
Construction is underway on LiGenerate's first commercial-scale black mass refining facility.

Europe faces a major challenge in battery recycling: much of its battery black mass is not refined locally. Existing refining methods are environmentally intensive and economically challenging. As a result, valuable black mass is exported outside the European bloc at cut-rate prices. Europe risks losing access to critical metals, and a truly circular EV economy is out of reach.

LiGenerate is developing a solution to this challenge through its novel Solid State Reduction™ process for battery black mass recycling. Solid State Reduction™ is a one-step, closed-loop process that operates at low temperatures using continuously recyclable reagents. The process produces high-purity metals, including cobalt and nickel, while avoiding the massive energy requirements and toxic fumes of pyrometallurgical refining, and the harsh acids and wastewater generated by hydrometallurgical processes. Designed with both sustainability and profitability in mind, LiGenerate's refining units require relatively low CAPEX and OPEX and can be deployed directly at existing recycling facilities.

This distributed approach creates clear economic value with the benefits of localized recovery of critical materials. By improving the economics of black mass refining, LiGenerate aims to transform battery recycling from a cost center into a profitable business opportunity. By eliminating many of the environmental barriers of conventional refining, LiGenerate supports true urban mining and a true circular battery economy.

Visit us at Booth S17 to learn more about our approach to battery recycling and our commercialization roadmap. Take the magnet test to see firsthand how metals produced through Solid State Reduction™ exhibit magnetic properties. LiGenerate’s leadership team will be present, including our CEO, Mr. Mike Goldstein, as well as our CTO, Dr. Michael Salam, and CPE, Dr. Bar Gavriel, providing an opportunity to explore our technology and its commercial potential in greater depth.
