Recycling scheme for e-waste

An e-waste recycling centre is making significant efforts to ensure that as many unwanted electrical items as possible are diverted from landfill.

Located at Spittlegate Level in Grantham, Enva specialises in recycling electrical waste from residents. This includes a wide range of items such as household appliances, outdated electronics, and even spare cables.

The recycling process is crucial because electrical items contain valuable materials that can be recovered and reused. Once separated, these materials can be repurposed into new products, reducing the need for raw material extraction. Enva focuses on recovering key resources, including plastics and precious metals like gold, steel, and copper.

Jon Parsons, Chief Financial Officer at Enva, highlighted the importance of these efforts, stating, “The excavation and refining of new raw materials is hugely energy-intensive.”

He added, “If we can separate that copper, we can put it almost directly back into manufacturing.”

This initiative underscores the critical role of e-waste recycling in creating a sustainable future by minimising waste and conserving valuable resources.
