Boliden, IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and Ericsson are partnering to improve the visibility around circular electronic waste management within the telecom industry.
The initiative is supported by Vinnova, as part of a Net Zero Industry Programme, aiming to help the Swedish industry accomplish its goal of net zero emissions. The initiative will map the value chain of old site materials and practical trials have been completed at Boliden’s state-of-the-art e-waste facility. These trials include tracking copper and other precious metals throughout the recycling and recovery processes.
When mapping the value chain – digital interfaces and methods will be used to identify detailed information about component content, timing, and location.
This initiative aims to improve traceability and trading capabilities through using Ericsson Connected Recycling, a SaaS platform. Contributing to promoting a circular economy.
Boliden, IVL and Ericsson have specified that the next steps for this project will be to increase the size of the consortium by adding more stakeholders to enable them to provide more detailed investigations and life cycle analyses.
