Dr Athan Fox is a scientist and entrepreneur based in Cambridge, UK, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. With a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge, Athan is dedicated to developing, scaling up and commercialising circular economy innovations. His team is pioneering work in upcycling materials – producing, from waste or secondary inputs, nanostructured materials which outperform the primary industry’s products. The team’s flagship technology boosts energy density in lead-acid batteries by up to 40%, while simultaneously reducing the carbon footprint by 85% and waste by more than 90%. In recognition of their work, the team was awarded the Cambridge Independent “Cleantech Company of the Year” award in 2022. Athan has helped publicly listed companies bring green solutions to the UK and the global stage, including lithium-ion battery recycling, recycling of plastics, fuel-from-waste, and more. He was an active member of the Board of ALGOLiON, a high-tech company which was recently sold to General Motors.
